Figure carousel
A figure carousel is located in the eastern outer wall at a height of 12 meters. The idea of the figure carousel dates back to before the construction of the Poldertoren but was only realized in 1992.
Now completely restored and working again for everyone to admire. The figure carousel tells the history of the Noordoostpolder in images and symbolism.
1 ~ The mammoth 
Mammoths once roamed what is now the territory of the municipality of Noordoostpolder. This must have been the case during the Ice Age. The mammoth in the tower makes a simple up and down movement from the base plate. The displacement of the mammoth is thereby suggested.
2 ~ The primitive man 
In the time of the mammoths, the first primitive man must also have entered the area. Traces of this have been found. Whether they actually hunted mammoths is not clear, but it is likely. The club of the primitive man makes an up and down movement and represents a striking movement in the direction of the mammoth.
3 ~ The Cog ship 
Symbolism moves quickly. The Cog ship once sailed the former Zuiderzee. A sturdy and strong ship on the rough waters of that time. The Cog ship also adorns the tower as a weathervane. In the figure carousel, the ship moves up and down from the base plate. For this, waves moving in opposite directions have been placed to further enhance this effect.
4 ~ The Pioneer 
It was fifty years ago in 1992 that the first spades were put into the marshy soil of the former Zuiderzee. From that time came the pioneers, who made the first start for Noordoostpolder to what it is today. By including "the pioneer" in the figure carousel, homage is paid to the men and women of the first hour. The pioneer moves the spade, symbolizing the laborious soil cultivation of that time.
5 ~ Industrialization 
It is clear that not only the agricultural sector has been decisive for the development of Noordoostpolder. In the more than thirty years of the municipality's existence, industry, industry and services have become the largest employers. Contemporary industry and business are symbolized in the last figure by a building with a chimney. Modern technology is indicated by two rotating gears.
6 ~ The combine harvester 
Agriculture has made the Noordoostpolder great. Its significance is still eminent. The combine harvester represents the agricultural sector, which formed the basis for the development of the area and still makes a great contribution to it. The stylized machine, a single plane, has a rotating movement by means of the reel. Ears of corn complete the design and reinforce the action of the combine harvester.
