Lemmer
After about a 20-minute drive, you'll find the cozy village of Lemmer in Friesland. Despite being a village, you'll be surprised by all there is to see and do! The pride of Lemmer is undoubtedly the UNESCO ir. D.F. Woudagemaal. This steam pumping station dates back to 1920 and is the largest still-operating pumping station in the world! In a short time, the pumping station can pump an enormous amount of water into the IJsselmeer. Twice a year, it is tested to ensure everything is working properly, a real attraction. In the village, you'll truly experience the conviviality; you'll hear various languages, including German and, of course, Frisian. With various boutiques and, of course, the cozy terraces, you can easily spend an afternoon.
The terraces are located by the water, so there are plenty of boats to see! You can perfectly end the day with a walk on the beach and then enjoy a drink at Beachclub Lemmer with a setting sun. Need inspiration for fun cycling, car, walking, or boating routes in Southwest Friesland? You can find them on the Waterland van Friesland website.
Throughout the year, various events are organized. Here you can see when there is something special to do. Must-see according to us: Dickens.
