Weerribben Wieden
The Weerribben-Wieden is a beautiful nature reserve where you can enjoy the many possibilities. The Weerribben-Wieden National Park has a special status for special nature reserves in Europe. Various species of plants, flowers, insects and birds live there, the water is so clean and of good quality that the otter feels completely at home here. Not only is the nature reserve very beautiful, the surrounding villages are also worth a visit! Of course Giethoorn, the Dutch Venice where you can explore the area by means of a whisper boat. Whisper boats are open punt boats equipped with a silent electric motor, so very environmentally friendly. You can steer the whisper boat yourself, by means of an explanation and a map you will sail through Giethoorn in no time.
But not only Giethoorn is worth a day trip, also take a look in Blokzijl, Ossenzijl, St. Jansklooster, Dwarsgracht, Belt-Schutsloot or Kalenberg. If you get the chance in Blokzijl, buy the Blokzijlerbrok, a regional dish that will have you sold after one bite. There are plenty of options to enjoy the nature reserve: walking, cycling and in winter even ice skating! In the Weerribben-Wieden you can enjoy from the water, via the water taxi you can sail along Sint Jansklooster, Blokzijl and Giethoorn over the lakes. A trip takes about 60 to 75 minutes and is worth every minute.
